Timothy Mensing

The University of Washington can at once be a sprawling campus and an intimate home. It is my goal to foster the latter. Vision:

To make ASUW relevant to every single student. This will be accomplished via working with as a team with ASUW entities, and by incorporating the following:

Communication and Community
  • Create a far reaching sense of community among all UW students through incorporation of ASUW mentorship program & increased interplay between all facets of ASUW (clubs, commissions, programs, etc.) and beyond. Insure Every Voice is heard.
  • Distribute a monthly ASUW progress report to be included in The Daily, and RHSA/Greek newsletters.
  • Coordination between ASUW entities. Goal is to have any one activity sponsored by multiple ASUW clubs, programs, etc.
  • Directly address Commuter issues such as better access to UW events and increased transportation accessibility by working through faculty, administration and student commuter programs.
  • Create ASUW Facebook group.

College to Career Pathways:
  • The primary goal in college is to receive education for a career you love doing. Instill career related material in core class curriculum.

Student Access and advocacy:
  • Decrease student tuition increase rates through more direct communication with state legislature and more standing student opinion.
  • Add Husky Pride fund as donation option when registering for classes.
  • Work with other state funded colleges to develop consensus and unity on issues to better appeal to legislators.
  • Safety: Advocate for increased police funding from state.
  • Greater publicity for Night Walk and Walk With a Buddy programs.
  • For the Greek community I am working on instituting a block watch program. If successful, this would not only increase positive inter-Greek and neighborhood relations, it would create a no-cost self sustainability in crime prevention. This could be put into use for commuter students as well.
  • Promotion of UW entities: For Rainy Dawg Radio, attain radio frequency.
  • For Bike shop, hosting riding events or races. Also, if Rainy Dawg were to attain a frequency, this would provide another venue for advertising ASUW events.
  • Work to create better living conditions for students. This includes issues on crime, overcrowding of dorms, and commuter living conditions. Creating a rating system for off campus housing and landlords on the Off Campus Housing Affairs website. Streamline as many processes as possible.
  • Make ASUW as easy to run and accessible as possible.
