Lydia Berhanu

PLATFORM STATEMENT

Hey Huskies! I’m Lydia Berhanu, a third-year studying Law, Societies, & Justice with a minor in Informatics. When I’m not doing homework, I enjoy playing volleyball and overindulging in Mango Black Tea or Bigfoot Java drinks (a true Washingtonian). As the current ASUW Director of Diversity Efforts, the transition into the president’s office would seamlessly build on my experience in promoting equitable practices, allowing me to further support the diverse needs of all students.

As President, my top priorities include:

  • Engaging with HFS to improve food variety and affordability, while addressing the need for short- and long-term emergency housing options, alongside the designation of an additional affinity-based living space.
  • Strengthening and institutionalizing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging practices within ASUW’s internal operations and external initiatives.
  • Expanding access to essential health resources by increasing reproductive health vending machine locations that offer inclusive payment options and securing increased funding to improve health service accessibility.
  • Fostering Husky success! Uplifting student creators by supporting them through ASUW platforms and resources, creating opportunities for collaboration and growth.

As a first-generation American and college student, I aim to streamline resources and support systems for underrepresented communities while continuing to serve the student body with compassion and purpose.
