Progress in communities is driven by those who excel in communication and thrive on the diversity within it. The University of Washington is at the forefront of this concept providing a world-class education to those who come from all different backgrounds, ethnicities, and living accommodations. I hope to utilize my position to enhance communication among students in all housing facilities. I believe that this is an integral step in bettering campus operations and is often overlooked. The campus supplies the tangible tools to integrate and communicate with one another; however, each sector lacks the knowledge or motivation to reach out to one another. Social barriers and stereotypes, especially between those who live in the dorms and those to participate in Greek life, hinder active community, and friendship building. I believe division largely spawns from a lack of knowledge about one another; thus, it is paramount to open the door to education about each sector. My goal as Community Relations Director will be to accomplish this first step: that no matter your housing decisions, we are all Huskies. When we capitalize on growing and strengthening the bonds within our community, our University only continues to excel amongst the competition.
