Lillian Williamson

Hi Huskies!

My name is Lillian Williamson and I’m running to be your next Vice President. My job as Vice President will be to support our student employees and work to address the current issues of accountability, accessibility, and transparency in ASUW. As Chief Operating Officer of the ASUW, I will ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of personnel, volunteer, and budget operations. I have years of experience inside and outside of ASUW working in policy, advocacy, and leadership.

I’ve worked with ASUW for three years, as the Director of the Queer Student Commission, a student senator, and an intern. In that time, I’ve overseen the operations of a commission representing more than a quarter of UW, put on popular events like Queer Prom, and worked to engage thousands of constituents in advocacy for the rights of LGBTQ+ students. I have the knowledge of organizational workings vital to be able to implement the necessary changes to better serve students.

As your next Vice President, I will:

  • Update the ASUW bylaws in collaboration with the Director of Internal Policy to ensure an efficient, inclusive, and accessible workplace.
  • Work with the Director of Communication and the President to increase transparency in internal ASUW operations through regular email communication with the student body and re-instituting public quarterly reports.
  • Further engage students in ASUW and its operations by updating the volunteer policy in coordination with the Office of Outreach and Involvement.
  • Support a task force overseeing the combination of the Gender Equity Commission and Queer Student Commission to more efficiently allocate student resources.
  • Address hiring inequities and ensure that positions within ASUW are accessible to all through revamping hiring committee trainings.
  • Work with the Personnel Director to support employees, interns, and volunteers through regular check-ins and accountability measures.

Qualifications:

  • Director of the ASUW Queer Student Commission, 2021 – present
  • Acting LGBTQ+ Commissioner with the City of Seattle 2021 – present
  • Policy writer and lobbyist with the WA Health Care Authority and Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, 2019 – present
