Vanessa Lam

As the Director of Diversity Efforts, I will implement a lens of equity and equality at every level. The experiences I’ve had as an RA, the Vice-President of the International Student Mentorship Program, and a volunteer at API-Chaya have taught me the importance of compassion, active listening, and intentional action to make impactful change. As Director I will implement this perspective with ASUW to uplift and empower the voices of every community on campus.

Action Items

  • Collaborate with the personnel director to develop standards of hiring that promote the diverse selection of candidates and to bring values of inclusivity and worldly views to our candidates
  • Foster partnerships between Joint Committee Commissions to promote intersectionality, by developing thoughtful programming between ASUW commissions. By bringing together representatives from each commission to create an open dialogue on issues of diversity
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of marginalized and underrepresented identities and communities to recognize, bring about and increase their accessibility to resources that will support them on campus by creating a special advisory board
  • Increase the diversity of voices on campus by using my platform to support activities and events hosted by ASUW commissions, RSOs, and other entities on campus
